On 25 November, Candoco Dance Company will become the first contemporary dance company to appear on Strictly Come Dancing.

For one-night-only, 10 Candoco dancers and 13 Strictly Pros will perform a group piece, choreographed by Arlene Phillips, Jason Gilkison and Trent Whiddon. Blending Candoco’s contemporary dance style with the vast array of ballroom and Latin styles, the piece will be performed to David Bowie’s classic, Life on Mars.

Speaking of the collaboration, Candoco’s Artistic Co-Directors, Charlotte Darbyshire and Ben Wright said;

“At its heart Strictly has a similar heartbeat to Candoco, we embrace dance in all of its iterations. Collaborating with the Strictly team and sharing our work on one of the most popular programmes on television is hugely exciting.  We can’t wait  to introduce Strictly audiences to Candoco.”

Read more about this incredible opportunity and meet our Candoco Pros here. You can also catch our dancers Joel Brown and Laura Patay on the It Takes Two sofa with Jason Gilkison on BBC Two this Thursday at 18:30.

As well as our Strictly performance, Sunday also takes us to Royal Opera House for a screening of Alice’s Story (extract of our film Unspoken Spoken) and a series of discussions with the film’s director and choreographer, Fin Walker.

Following Strictly, we are very excited to launch our Big Give Christmas Challenge on Tuesday 27 November. If you’ve been thinking about making a donation to Candoco, next week is the time to do it because every £1 donated to Candoco will be doubled between 27 November and 4 December.  We are aiming to raise a total of £4000 to support our youth company, Cando2.  You can find out about the challenge here, but please don’t donate until 27 November at midday when the Christmas Challenge begins.
