A group of London’s most exciting young dancers have been training with some of London’s top professionals as part of the Step into Dance programme to be ready for Battle Educate. This annual celebration of street dance organised by Step into Dance, is your chance to experience the thrill of a live battle, and see some of London’s most dedicated young dancers take to the stage in their bid to take home a prize.

This year, guest producers Soul Mavericks have programmed an exciting mix of workshops, performances and an all-important opportunity for crews and individual dancers to battle it out to be the 2019 winners in All Styles (hip hop) and breaking, judged by an all-female panel of breakers Roxanne Milliner aka Bgirl RoxyVanessa Marina, and Emma Houston aka Bgirl

Shortbread. There will also be prizes for Best Dancer, Most Promising Dancer and Best Throwdown. There will be an opportunity to watch the well-known judges give a performance and share their experience as dancers, with opportunities to answer questions.

Dancers aged 11-18 years old, with the exception of those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) who can take part upto the age of 25 years old, will be stepping up to the challenge of a live battle in a range of styles from breaking to all styles which includes popping, locking, house, hip hop, waccking, litefeet and krump. Some of the dancers involved are taking part in the Step into Dance programme. Step into Dance enables young people to develop their passion, skills, and understanding of dance through a diverse and inclusive programme of weekly classes, workshops and performance opportunities. Working with mainstream and SEN schools across London and Essex, Step into Dance reaches around 6,000 students annually, aiming to reach those that might not otherwise connect with dance.

Battle Educate is organised by Step into Dance, a partnership project between the Royal Academy of Dance and the Jack Petchey Foundation, whose support and funding make this programme possible.
