Resolution 2017: The Place to see the best emerging dance artists with 78 performances from contemporary, flamenco, hip-hop and more

The Place Resolution 2017

The Place’s annual, New Year festival of short live dance and performance works by emerging artists returns for its 28th year in 2017.

This is an exciting opportunity to see 3 brand new short works each night, with a total of 78 performances across a range of dance styles throughout the month.

This year’s eclectic programme features work from Flamenco to hip-hop to Zouk, with topics from cloud patterns to American politics explored on stage.

Resolution plays an important role in the dance ecosystem, offering a unique platform for artists to present their work on an established London stage, as well support and guidance throughout the process.

This year Breakin’ Convention, Jacksons Lane, Rambert and Grad-Lab Dance development project supported by The Point, Eastleigh have joined with The Place to co-present work in the festival.

Over the years, Resolution has been a starting point for choreographers such as Luca Silvestrini (Protein), Wayne McGregor, Eva Recacha, Katie Prince (Zoonation), Frauke Requardt, Drew McOnie, and Barely Methodical Troupe (winner of the Total Theatre & Jacksons Lane Award for Circus).

In addition to the performance work that takes place on stage, Resolution offers participants workshops on all aspects of producing a show, and also operates as a training scheme for young critics, who are given the chance to hone their skills working alongside established dance writers including Graham Watts, Sarah Crompton, Sanjoy Roy, Lyndsey Winship and Josephine Leask.

The Place is one of Europe’s most exciting, innovative dance spaces, where artists from all over the world come to push creative boundaries, to experiment and to perform outstanding new work for audiences who expect to be surprised, inspired and delighted.

The Place is home to London Contemporary Dance School, Richard Alston Dance Company, a 280 seat theatre, an extensive range of classes, courses and participatory opportunities for adults and young people, and professional development programmes for artists.
