Paul Lightfoot has taken the decision to end his duties as Artistic Director of Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) in the summer of 2020, at the end of the 60th anniversary season of NDT. Lightfoot remains connected to the company as its House Choreographer, together with his creative partner Sol León. With this timely announcement Lightfoot offers the company ample opportunity to search for a successor in the position of Artistic Director.

Despite his immense passion and dedication to NDT in the past nine years as Artistic Director, Lightfoot has indicated that he wants to spend his time exclusively on creating as a choreographer:

“I’m leaving this responsibility knowing that the company is in good stead for a new Artistic Director to continue NDT’s developments. I’m also very happy to continue to work as house choreographer and to stay a part of this inspiring company as I’ve been for the past 34 years.”

In the nine seasons of Lightfoot’s tenure as Artistic Director NDT continued to flourish, and has created and presented work of so many artists from all over the world, that have further strengthened NDT’s position as a prominent local, national and international cultural enterprise and as a beacon of inspiration for art from the Netherlands.

NDT proudly looks back on Lightfoot’s nine seasons as Artistic Director!
